“Zoya reminds me of Nawazuddin” (Siddiqui). He takes on a whole different tone when he's in front of the camera. In an interview with a news site in 2018, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said, "When you see her on-screen, you will look back at her very differently." When one of the country's most skilled directors mentions you in the same breath as one of the country's most talented musicians, that is high praise indeed.
The filmmaker was alluding to Zoya Hussain, a 30-year-old actress who made her screen debut in the critically praised film Mukkabaaz in 2017. Her spirited portrayal of a speech-impaired Brahmin girl who falls in love with a struggling boxer left an indelible effect on the audience.
